Lessons From A Digital Detox (EP235)

I took a week and did a 'Digital Detox.' Here is what I learned:

First, here were my rules:

+ No Social Media

+ Email

+ Financial blogs

+ Industry news sites

I learned that...

1. I am addicted to my phone. Seriously, like a teenager.

2. I was thinking in terms of social media posts.

3. I took pictures through the lens of how they would look on social.

4. I found time to read again.

5. Politics is mind poison. They are manipulation us on these platforms.

6. Some of the nosiest people on social media have no idea what they are talking about.

7. There are some great industry podcasts....and some really bad ones.

The Takeaways:

1. Email and text are the best form of digital communication. Period.

2. Pick up the phone and call people.

3. Social media is important, but needs to be managed correctly. Be on the lookout for a new course from Morningstar that Katie Braden, CFP® recently produced.

4. Watch out for 'Sloppy Thinking' driven by the social media algos.
